Pain can be debilitating, whether it’s acute muscle or nerve pain resulting from an accident, or a chronic condition such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. Pharmacy compounding may help improve a patient’s quality of life by providing relief with potentially fewer side effects and less overall medication.

Pain Cream

If you have chronic joint pain or neuropathy, you know it is difficult to find relief. You often have to resort to multiple medications to provide temporary relief to this pain. You may want to talk to your prescriber about our pain cream therapy. Compounded pain creams can supplement your current medication or replace it altogether to relieve your pain without causing the side effects that oral dosage forms can cause. These creams, when applied locally, relieve pain in specific areas and when applied to trigger points, can relieve pain completely. Most of our patients are able to find relief soon after applying cream to their joints and some have even felt complete relief after only a few days of use. Remember, we can work with your prescriber to adjust our formulas in order to find the relief you deserve. If for any reason your insurance doesn't pay for your pain cream prescription, we are able to offer many options to help you. Most commercial insurances pay for our pain creams. We want you to experience the relief that our pain creams can offer, so we will work with you until your healthcare needs are met.

Low Dose Naltrexone

Naltrexone is an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved medication used to treat alcoholism and opioid addiction. It is a mu-opioid receptor antagonist, which means it blocks one or more opioid receptors in our nervous system. This prevents the body from experiencing the “high” and sedative effects of drugs such as heroin or other opioids. Naltrexone looks to reduce the effects of withdrawal symptoms and reduces the user’s craving for opioids.

While naltrexone can help treat opioid and alcohol addiction, low doses of naltrexone have also been shown to have positive effects. While working in addiction clinics, Bernard Bihari, MD, discovered how lower doses (4.5 mg) of naltrexone can have benefits. This is just under 1/10th of the standard dosage (50mg) used to treat addiction. As we know, naltrexone blocks opioid receptors by binding to them. By intermittently blocking receptors with low doses of naltrexone, the receptor sites began to restore and even increase the production of endorphins. By training the body to utilize its own natural endorphins, the body is able to naturally relieve pain, enhance sense of well-being, and regulate the immune system. Before starting low dose naltrexone (LDN), the patient must first have a full review of the current medication and supplements they are taking. Modifications may need to be made.

What Is Hormone Therapy?

As we age, our body’s ability to naturally produce hormones may lessen or diminish. For many this is a natural occurrence, but for others, it may be the result of a condition that affects hormone production or surgery. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) helps replenish and replace the deficiency of hormones. Many people rely on HRT to live a comfortable and dignified life. The inability to produce hormones may lead to a reduced quality of life and debilitating symptoms.

What are the Symptoms of Hormone Deficiency?

Low Libido

Reduced estrogen and testosterone levels can reduce the sex drive in women and men respectively. For women, this may lead to vaginal dryness and cause sex to be more painful. For men, this may lead to erectile dysfunction and the inability to have sex.

Mood Swings

Low hormone production can lead to difficulties with mood such as depression, irritability, reduced attention, and even dementia. Discomforts such as hot flashes can lead to instability in mood.

Trouble Sleeping

Low testosterone can cause fatigue and insomnia. It is quite a predicament to be tired and unable to sleep. Low estrogen may also lead to difficulty sleeping in women. Increased body temperature and other irritable symptoms may make it difficult to sleep comfortably.

Treatment Options for Hormone Deficiency

There are some commercially available Hormone Replacement Therapy(HRT) options available.   However, some are made of synthetic hormones and are available in very standard dosages.  Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) gives us the opportunity to provide natural hormone options that are closer to the hormones that our bodies make naturally.  Additionally, we can individualize the dose to the specific patient.

Natural hormones include estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), Estriol (E3),progesterone, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and pregnenolone. Our compounding pharmacists  work together with patients and prescribers to provide customized hormone replacement therapy that provides the needed hormones in the most appropriate strength and dosage form to meet each patient’s specific needs. Hormone replacement therapy should be initiated carefully after a patient’s  medical and family history has been reviewed. Every patient  is unique and will respond to therapy in her own way. Close monitoring and medication adjustments are essential.

Dosage forms for BHRT
  • Buccal Troches
  • Topical Creams for Women
  • Vaginal Creams for Women
  • Topical Gels for Men

 Hormone Replacement Therapy

Changes in your hormone levels due to natural or surgically induced menopause can cause unwanted symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, mood changes, and fatigue. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is used to treat symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances. BHRTs are structurally identical hormones found in the human body and are derived from a natural source.

At TrueCare Pharmacy, we are able to compound medications with the exact amount of active ingredients with specific doses based on your unique needs rather than a one size fits all approach. BHRTS include but are not limited to progesterone, estradiol, estriol, testosterone, DHEA.

Men can benefit from hormone replacement therapy as well. With increasing age and some medical conditions, testosterone levels decline and patients often experience a decrease in strength, libido, depression, and energy. During this time of andropause, the patient's natural hormone level of testosterone can be restored by supplementation through hormone therapy.

We are able to prepare hormone therapy in different strengths and dosage forms such as troches, topical creams, vaginal creams, suppositories, and capsules. With proper treatment, we are able to restore hormonal balance and minimize symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and insomnia.
